Two short rescue seasons were conducted at Qesem Cave during 2001, one on behalf of the Institute of Archaeology, Tel Aviv University and one in collaboration with the Israel Antiquities Authority.
The excavations in 2001 exposed a 7.5 m depth of archaeological sediments with a complex stratigraphy, showing overlying anthropogenic horizons each yielding lithic and faunal assemblages in fresh condition.
